Wow, I can't believe it's been 20 years since the best guitarist ever died. I still remember that day.
I was fortunate enough to see him and The Who in 1989 at the Cotton Bowl. I was a kid watching my idol and I was in awe. I scored some floor seats from a friend of my step-dad's, we were maybe 15 rows back, and close enough to see everything really well.
I wish I could remember every second of that show, but I do remember him surfing on his guitar. Yes, surfing.
It seemed like every kid with a guitar in Texas was trying to imitate him in the years after his death, myself included, and while some could duplicate his speed, none seemed to have the soul.
There are some great blues guitarists out there, but I still miss Stevie.
